U‑Dig It Rentals — Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers about eligibility, insurance, pricing, delivery, safety, returns, and more. Use the search or jump to a topic below.
Booking & Eligibility
QWho can rent from U‑Dig It Rentals?
Adults who meet our eligibility: valid government photo ID, authorized operators listed, sober/fit for duty, trained/competent for the machine, and able to meet our insurance/deposit requirements.
QIs there a minimum age?
Yes. 21+
QCan multiple people operate the machine?
Yes — only if they’re named on the agreement and meet all eligibility/training requirements.
QWhat could make me ineligible?
Any outstanding balance with us, an unresolved chargeback, failure to provide required ID/insurance/deposit, or safety/fit‑for‑duty concerns.
Insurance & Liability
QDo I need insurance to rent the skid steer?
Yes. “No COI, no release.” We require a Certificate of Insurance (COI): $2M CGL naming U‑Dig It Rentals Inc. as Additional Insured (primary & non‑contributory), plus Rented/Leased Equipment = $100,000 naming us as Loss Payee (coverage must span the rental dates).
QI don’t have a policy — can I still rent?
Typically, yes via a same‑day short‑term binder from your broker that meets the above limits. See our Getting Insurance page for step‑by‑step instructions and a broker email template.
QWhy do you still ask for the renter’s insurance if you carry loss‑of‑use coverage?
Your insurance is primary for losses you cause and covers third‑party injury/property damage. It prevents gaps, deductibles, and premium hits on our policy.
Pricing, Deposits & Payments
QDo you take a deposit/hold?
Yes, a refundable security hold (amount shown on your quote/checkout) to cover fuel, cleaning, wear items, and minor damage.
QWhat payment methods do you accept?
Major credit cards (name must match the agreement). Invoices for approved commercial accounts.
Delivery & Transport
QDo you deliver?
Yes. Local delivery/float service is available; fee depends on distance/unit (typical local fee may apply). Quoted at booking.
QCan I tow or haul the skid steer myself?
Only if you meet all transport requirements (properly rated truck/trailer/hitch/tie‑downs) and your insurance includes appropriate Auto Liability. We may require delivery‑only at our discretion.
Safety & Operation
QWhat safety gear (PPE) is required?
CSA safety boots, hi‑viz vest, safety glasses, hearing protection, work gloves; hard hat where overhead hazards exist.
QDo I need training?
New to this equipment? No problem—most first‑timers do great with a quick orientation. We’ll walk you through the controls and safety basics at delivery, and you can review our short how‑to videos and checklists anytime. If anything is unclear, pause and call us—we’re happy to help.
QAre there operating limits?
Yes—follow the Operator’s Manual and our limits. Key rules: max grade ≤ 25°, travel straight up/down on slopes, keep load/bucket low, never carry people, obey exclusion zones (≥ 3 m / 10 ft), no device/phone use while operating.
QDo I need utility locates?
Yes before any ground disturbance. Call 811 Before you dig or Call NB Power at 1‑800‑663‑6272.
Checklists & Daily Use
QWhat should I check before I start?
Do a daily pre‑start: tracks/undercarriage, coupler pins, hoses/leaks, fluids/coolers, cab/seat belt/lap bar, horn/lights/backup alarm, slow function test, parking brake. Tag out and call us if unsafe.
QAny tips for working on slopes?
Keep the heavy end uphill; if traction breaks, lower the bucket and steer straight—don’t turn sharply; avoid cross‑slope travel.
Incidents & Emergencies
QWhat if there’s an accident, utility strike, fire, or tip‑over?
- Tip‑over: stay seat‑belted, hands/feet inside; shut down if safe.
- Utility strike: stop, secure; remain in cab if electrical contact suspected.
- Hydraulic injection: medical emergency — call 911 and go to hospital immediately.
Returns & After‑Rental
QHow should I return the equipment?
Park level, attachment down, brake set; idle to cool, shut down; remove key; clear debris from radiator/engine bay. We’ll record the hour‑meter and inspect with you.
QFuel and cleaning?
Return with agreed fuel level and reasonably clean. Fuel/cleaning charges may apply if not.
Policies & Legal
QWhere can I read the full terms and policies?
QWhat law governs my rental?
The Province of New Brunswick and applicable federal laws of Canada.
This FAQ summarizes key points. Your signed Rental Agreement and any Equipment‑Specific Rider (e.g., Skid Steer) govern if there’s a conflict.
